Point Pinole's 2,432 acres of nature are located on a spit of land largely surrounded by water, so its rugged beaches look out towards San Francisco on one side and into tranquil North Bay waters on the other. Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Photo: Laila Weir / Hoodline From hidden harbors and tucked-away waterfront dining to historic sites, water parks, quiet beaches, hiking, and even a little archery, there's something for everyone in the East Bay's quieter northern county. That goes a long way. There's plenty of summer fun to be had in Contra Costa County, which Hoodline's Bay Area Day Trips series is exploring this week. One major factor in this decision is that every single Kalahari employee we we interacted with was super, super nice. When discussing which water park we'd like to revisit, the unanimous choice was Kalahari. We found Kalahari to be very comparable in many ways to Great Wolf Lodge and The Kartrite (with Kalahari's water park being superior and their offerings of free activities inferior). Overall, our family had a great time for the two nights we stayed here. When we went in early March, the pressure was low but the water was hot. Other reviews mention issues with water pressure and temperature in the rooms. I think the temperature of the water park varies with how much sun it gets. I agree with another reviewer's suggestion of increasing the temperature in the water park and surrounding hallways a degree or two. They were able to get their own refills of soda and slushies throughout the water park and in the restaurants. The best deal around and something I wish we'd done sooner is buying our kids (10 and 13) the refillable elephant and/or coconut cups ($15-18 dollars). Room service is okay (we ordered breakfast once and dinner once) our food arrived on the lukewarm side and was missing the included condiments (creamer, syrup, marinara, etc.) both times. Food and service at B-Lux were great and prices were fair. $4.50 for a coffee and $6.50 for a toast-it-yourself bagel is pricey (and the room charge option wasn't working thankfully, I'd thought to bring a credit card just in case something like this happened). Waterpark towels are a nice size and there really is a lot to do for most age groups.Īs for food, yes, it is expensive. The waterpark and its bathrooms were clean but the bathroom floors are extra slippery (as are the bath tubs!) because there are no fans to dry them. The wristbands are comfortable - no sharp edges and you can put them on yourselves for optimal comfort. Our room was clean and my request for extra blankets was quickly taken care of by housekeeping. Better signage in the lobby would help since there is no "greeter" to ask for assistance. Our only issue here was figuring out which direction our room was in and where the elevators were. Self check-in was easy and even though check-in isn't until 4, our room was ready. There were plenty of self check-in kiosks available and three employees were stationed at the front desk. We visited a couple weeks ago and arrived on a Thursday at 3:30. I almost never write reviews, but because my recent Kalahari experience was different from what others have posted, I thought I'd share and put some others with reservations at ease. Because I read some really terrible reviews before my recent visit, I was a little scared of what our experience would be like, especially because I can have fairly high standards.
